NEW Blog, this time it is for exercising your political voice. For those of you who don’t really follow politics or who claim ”I don’t care”, now you must figure things out so you too can participate in this great civic debate, or at least get a good grade.
There are a few candidates left in the race for the two major party nominations. So the question is either (1) Who would you vote for if you were voting Republican/Democratic? or (2) Who do you think is going to win each of the party’s nominations? Think this through, look up each of the candidates and where they stand on the issues that are important to you. Just stating someone and their stand on an issue or two is not going to get you the coveted “A+”, for that grade you will need to elaborate on your arguments. Draw from real life situations, give past experiences, etc…
To assist you in your grading, I will be posting grades for this almost daily. You should watch power school once you have posted, and if you see a grade you believe you can improve upon, go back and blog again, taking in mind the requirements. But you must be quick to act on this, as this whole assignment must be completed by MIDNIGHT on FRIDAY FEBUARY 15th. You will not be able to change any grades from the 15th so blog early and blog often!

Choosing someone to vote for is a very difficult thing for me. I find that I cannot just look at the profiles of the candidates, and then simply pick one, but I would rather look at both parties individually and systematically eliminate candidates from both sides until I am left only with one of each party. So that is what I am going to do. I will first start with the republican party, as they seem to have less controversial candidates. As I was sorting through the candidates issues on a reliable site, I saw that Alan Keyes didn’t have any. After doing some further research I found that he is pro-everything and that he is a renown spokesperson. Well, it almost seems like he is just speaking, and doesn’t really care too much about the issues. Even on his own website, he spotlights how wonderful a speaker he is. So, Keyes is out. A very important issue to me is our environment and energy sources, and even though John McCain has a whole 5 paragraphs devoted to the issue on his website, he does not mention any plan for action in the right direction. He only emphasizes maintaining national parks, which is already being done, even by Bush. John McCain just lost my vote. That leaves Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Ron Paul; all of whom have an opinion on energy, but Ron Paul has a beautiful statement proudly bannered on his energy page. “Any source that truly is cheaper and cleaner, yet still reliable, will not need government help to develop or sell,” a very true statement, however, it would sure help to speed things along if the government were involved in the important issues. Ron Paul is out. Both of the remaining candidates seem to understand the need for energy independence, and both promise it to be the first thing they do on the way into office. Huckabee even says that we will achieve energy independence by the end of his second term, almost too cocky of a statement. Both of the republicans are planning on “winning” the war in Iraq, so that will not be what I eliminate the final candidate on. My final choice for the republican side, would have to be Mitt Romney. This is because of a simple article endorsed by Huckabee, saying that he refused to separate his faith from his job, and then tried to justify it by saying, “My faith doesn’t influence my decisions, it drives them. That is why if I were to vote republican, it would be for Mitt Romney. My democratic pick is an easy one, Whitney Stewart Gravel. Mostly because I do not believe that the world, or our country, is ready for a female president. Barack Obama would be well-off to run in 2012, after things settle down some. As far as politics are concerned, I do not think that Obama lacks experience, I think he lacks life experience. Although the age minimum for president is 35 and Obama is 46, i would still like to have someone a little older in office right now, and if Obama is lucky, gravel will croak for 2012 elections and Barack will be in. That makes my picks for Republican: Mitt Romney and Democrat: Mike Gravel.
Way to go Craig. The research made you think through your ideas, well done.
Who’s next?!
After taking a second glance at the candidate’s profiles, I decided that Obama has just as much experience as Gravel and more than likely even more go to spirit. I would like to revoke my support for Gravel and switch it to Obama.
ok, here goes nothing. I really dont like any of the candidates that are running for president. But beings that i have to make a choice, i would have to say that i think Hillary Clinton will win for the democrates. She is very popular among women and is campaigning that she will always have the middle-class in her best interests. She is planning to end the war, provide affordable healthcare and she is promoting energy independance. She says that thw working class are not getting what they deserve and that our country needs to stop borrowing money form china to pay for oil. one of Hillary’s big issues is health care. While her husband was in office, she and her husband tryed to pass a healthcare plan but were unsucessful. now she’s at it again and basically all it is, is low price for higher quality. So even though i feel this country isn’t ready for a female president, i believe Hillary Clinton will be the democrat representative and may be the new president.
now i guess i need to pick a republican. hmmmmm….. i think i’ll agree with craig on Mitt Romney because he has a great plan for getting us out of our struggle with foreign countries with the matter of oil. our country is depending on oil from other countries so we are unstable if they decided to rip it out from underneath us. he will make our county energy independent if he is elected president.
choosing people to run our country is a hard decision to make because everyone talks about doing the same thing and you can’t really tell which ones are lieing. this is really all a big debate and the people of this country determine the winner. i don’t know about anyone else, but i am not looking forwaed to voting in 2012.
Look forward to voting!!! It is your chance to be heard and make a difference. It is a BIG responsiblity but it is also a HUGE right. Remember if you don’t vote - you can’t complain.
If I was voting Democratic I would deffinitely vote for HILLARY! WOO! Besides the fact that she is awesome and would make a great president, I think she has some really good stances on a lot of important issues. First of all, her belief to end the war in Iraq. I know that a lot of times war is neccesary, and I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have gone into Iraq in the first place, but I think we have been there for far to long. If we were making great progress, this would be different, but I don’t think we are at all. “Our message to the president is clear. It is time to begin ending this war — not next year, not next month — but today.” Another one of Hilary’s issues that i agree with is her idea of strengthening the middle class. Being that my sister is a senior, and she will be going to the university of Pennsylvania soon, and since we are in the middle class of America, it will be very hard to pay for this tuition, even if my sister gets scholarships. Hillary plans to lower taxes for middle class citizens, and provide health care for all americans, which is another really inportant issue. Her issue on Global warming and energy deffinitely needs to be heard as well. A lot of americans forget or put aside the fact that we are slowly destroying the earth with our fancy cars and factory farms. They think that nothing will happen to OUR generation, just the ones farther down the road, our families and our future. Hillary’s plan is to make our country cleaner and more energy efficient. She will make A requirement that all federal buildings designed after 2009 will be zero emissions buildings. I think Hilary clinton is the best choice for the democratic nominee, and not just because of the fact that she is a woman. I think that the race OR gender should not affect a voters decision at all. I also think that who you happen to be married should affect voters. If you refuse to vote for Hillary just because her husband is Bill Clinton, then you don’t have a good reason at all. People didn’t elect John Kennedy just because his wife had an amazing sense of style=]
Now, if I HAD to vote as a republican and vote against hillary, like say if she died or something, I think I would agree with steph and go with mitt romney because of his idea about how we should stop depending on other coutries with our oil consumption. But once again, only if Hillary died.
(I appologize for any missing “L”s or “S”s in this, I think my laptop is getting kinda worn out and I have to slam down on certain letters to make
them work.)
Okay, well, this was a really hard decision.
I’ll start with the republican party, because that’s the party that I don’t know so much about.
When I was looking into Huckabee, his ideals caught my attention instantly. His belief in letting his faith steer his life was something that impressed me, because I believe that having some kind of faith, no matter what it’s in,
is very important. His views on marriage (that
marriage should be a life-long commitment) also
impressed me, although I don’t like his views against same-sex marriages. (I don’t think that who someone chooses to marry is anyone else’s business). His health care plan is
interesting too. I liked how he was saying that health care should not be the responsibility of employers, but instead should be controlled by the individual. At this point in my research I was very impressed, but then I saw his Iraq plan. I’m sorry, but all of the Republican Iraq plans bothered me. They all think that we have to “win this war.” (If I get into my views on the war, I’ll be typing this forever, and I
might accidentally slip in a few choice words that
probably shouldn’t be used on here.) So,basically,
I’m putting the Iraq plan aside, and I’m choosing
Huckabee for the republican party, because of his
ideal of letting his faith steer his life, and also the fact that he is willing to share this fact with a world that generally considers faith to be separate from the rest of an individual’s life.
Now, my democratic decision was much, much harder.
That’s because I think that Clinton and Obama are both awesome.
Obama thinks that faith is very important part of our lives. (Which he expressed much differently than Huckabee, and much better, I might add.) And his Iraq plan consisted of getting the Iraqi government to fix it’s problems and get our troops out of there. This is incredibly important to me, as my cousin, who only graduated high school last year, may be being sent to Iraq. Obama also believes in afforable health care for all Americans, and he thinks that more of our health care money needs to be spent on prevention and public health.
Clinton’s views are very similar. (Except for the faith part.) The major difference is her
health care plan, which requires all Americans to have health care. I don’t like this idea as much as I do Obama’s, because not all health care is accepted by all doctors and medical facilities. I know that part of her plan would require that this
health care to be accepted, but that doesn’t seem like it would work, as well as it should.
So, it was a hard decision for my democratic pick. I really like Obama, but Clinton has the experience. (I keep calling her Clinton, am I confusing anyone? Most people tend to call her Hilary.) But, if I had to pick, I’d say Obama.
But, I don’t wanna jut let it go at that. I would really love to see them run together as a president/ VP team. If they did that, I wouldn’t care who did what.
If were given the operatunity( spelled that wrong) to vote, I think it would be in my best interest to vote for the Democratic party. My mom use to always tell me,:Jalessa when you get older always vote for Democrats, no matter what. I understand her completly now. But what I would not want to do is vote for the wrong one. So who to vote for? I would not vote for Barak Obma. Just because he is black dose not mean he gets a my vote. I think he knows what he is doing, but has little experince in the big leuages. Right now he is saying what the people want to hear, which is not bad. Obama is also Muslim and that could be a really big impact on our fellow americans. But I do not think he will follow through with his actions. So that said he would not be a canidate for the leader of the Democrat party, in my favor. And besides if he were to win president, in our corrrupt world today, I would give him less then a year in the white house( due to assination).
Now Mrs. Clinton!!! I would vote Hillary Clinton for head of the Democratic party. Not only could the world use a 360 of change, this would be the second Clinton in office. Clinton a women, is up to face an ample amount of challenges. She is looked down on automatically because of her sex and the his looked about from her husbands pass. That is negative and positive. But which side will the people be pursuaded? For her to be in ofice or to get her out.
It is most likely that Hilary will be elcted into office. Barak and the other canidates have not proved yet anything to America but talk. When Mr.Bill Clinton was in office,he and Hillary tried to decrease health care and were both unsucceful. So we know she is going to try it again.
If I were able to vote for our next president who would I choose? Not knowing much about the candidates I did a lot of research and made the decision to pick Barack Obama for the democratic representative, and Mitt Romney for the republican representative. In my opinion Barack is the best candidate overall. His opinions I feel are some of the best ideas for the future of the United States. He is for health care, and not just having it for everyone, but also reducing the price to make it affordable for everyone. Many candidates are also for health care for all United States citizens however Barack is different in that he would not force citizens to buy health care at an unaffordable price. Obama also addresses the morgage crisis and he wants to keep people in their homes, he does not want to freeze interest rates because interest rates will rise and people trying to buy a new house may have trouble. The one thing I really respected about Obama is his opinions on the war in Iraq. He opposes the war not because he feels we shouldn’t defend our nation but because he feels we should meet with the Iraq leaders and try to come up with a solution to our problems that doesn’t deal with being at war. The reasons I choose Romney were because I feel he also has good ideas for the future of our country. Like Obama, Romnney wants to bring down the cost of health insurance so that everyone can afford to have it. Health insurance is something everyone should have, and this is a great way to make sure our citizens get what they need. Romney also talks about social security as one of his main topics. He doesn’t want to raise taxes for social security because he feels it defeats the purpose. Either way it’s hard on our economy with higher taxes, or less social security. I also respect Romeny’s opinion on the war although it is completely different then Obamas. Romney says we can’t pull out of Iraq now because if we do leave there would have been no point of starting a war because things would not improve with Iraq. He supports the president’s current efforts and feels we just need to be continuously trying to find a way to end the war but accomplish what we want. In all I feel Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are the best candidates to represent their parties.
ok. Lets start off with what i think and work our way through the canidates. I am anti-abortion (not even gonna make it sound positive with pro-life), gay marraige is fine with me, my strategy for iraq is to stay as long as needed to get the country working properly, healthcare should not be free but should be more avaliable to the public. In terms of experience i think the president must have at least run a successful buissiness and have good social skills. a gpa and common sence rating higher than bush’s wouldnt hurt either (like, hey should i spit on the white house’s lawn with all these cameras around? the answer is NO), big buissinesses should be peanlized for carbon emissions and alternative energy sources should be researched with government funding and when found paid for with government funding. We do need to stop relying on other countries for our fuel and resort to solar and wind power for everything. The working middle class should get a bigger tax break than the wealthy upper class who can have three houses and six cars. Illegal immigrants should be provided with a path to citizenship, not just deported.
Based on this many candidates are already out, seeing as the abortion issue is my number one. Hill and Obama loose already.*(READ THIS!!!!!!)* Hillary thinks she knows what shes talking about being a woman and all but what she dosent get is that we were all tiny zygotes before this and approximately 3,700 little zygotes, embryos and (until just recently, although illegally probably still) fetuses are aborted daily in the United States. I would like to ask a real question also: WHEN IS BEING PREGNANT A HEALTH HAZARD FOR THE MOTHER? in all seriousness i would like to know (sometimes the mother is a health hazard for the baby, but it isnt begging for an abortion now is it?)
Therefore i am voting for McCain because of his anti-abortion stance, his immigration stance (path to citizenship), his interest in finding alternative energy sources, thoughts on using preventitive health care more than hospitals (which is healthier anyways) and lowering costs of chronic healthcare (cancer and such), and his support of staying in iraq until the country is stable enough to hold itself up.** Although McCain is anti-Same Sex Marraige the abortion issue is weighed a billion times more and there’s always Canada, right?
I do not vote by party, i vote by issues, just so you know and dont pin me as a republican because i want McCain or as conservative because i am anti-abortion.
On the democratic side i vote….. Obama.
He has pretty much the same as McCain except for abortions and Gay “civil Union”
** Iraq is unstable, like a todler. more like a person that has a really bad hangover and bad ballance and has been beat up really bad so just shifting their weight threatens to topple him. What do you do with a toddler or that kind of person? you help them.
Franki- Yes, it sometimes is a health threat to a woman if she is pregnant. If she has certain health problems already (not sure of what they are, but they do exist) and also if she is too young it could be dangerous for her to carry a baby. (I’m not saying 16 year olds, I’m saying 12 year olds.)
((I personally don’t think that abortion is right, but I don’t think that the government has the right to make such an important decision for an individual either.))
I just read an article, and I thought I would reinforce one or two of my decisions with it. The League of Conservation Voters has given “green” ratings to politicians. McCain scored 26 out of 100 (haha) whereas Clinton received 90 out of 100 and Obama was awarded 96 out of 100. So, since environmental action is a very important subject to me, I once again state that John McCain would not get my vote for the republican party, and that Obama would get my vote for the democratic fiesta.
http://www.alternet.org/environment/75814/
Thanks Jackie. Really sincerely i was wondering. Still, i know its dangerous for a 12 yearold to give birth to a child but she could have a c-section, as can other women. I think the government should protet all of its citizens and possible citizens in the best way possibly. Banning Abortions would be the best way to protect the unborn and a path to citizenship would be the best way to protect illegal immigrants.
If anyone has some time on their hands and wants to become informed AbortionNO.org is a great site. The flash popup is really good and the section on r*pe (the word is blocked on this site, but i dont think it is offensive in this situation, sorry mrs. eakin) and incest is an eye opener. Brooke read it and then said “i never thought about it like that.”
Sorry about my other post, i was running it down to the wire, i had to leave at 6:30 to see Juno so it gets pretty terse at the Obama part. What i meant to say was that I vote Obama because of his support of Civil Union for Gays and his goal to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 “all polluters pay for every ton of emissions they release” (obama’s website). He and Hillary seem to be on the same page with many issues and i wont be surprised if they team up together as a pres/vp team. I think Hillary will win, bush gave republicans a bad name already and most of the population votes by party (which as i said before is stupid) so the democrats are in. And Hillary seems to be appealing to more people, and bringing more people out to vote than Obama (sadly its mostly older women, voting for her just because she is a woman, which is also stupid.).
McCain is also terribly conservative, which on the case of abortion is a good thing but conservativism does not appeal to “the masses” so he is probably going to lose. Hes also really stereotypical, white rich man, and against a white rich woman and a black rich man he is sort of at a disadvantage i think. Oh, and Huckabee is losing already and is too young for “the masses”.
another good site is http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/candidate-match-game.htm
its like, a test to see which cantidate matches your views the most, the only problem is that the abortion issue is not on it.
REPUBLICAN
oksy. so i took that little test in franki’s blog and the ourcome was interesting.
it turns out that i gave the same exact feelings as two canidates who just so happened to have dropped out, joseph Biden and Rudy Guiliani.
The runner that still is in that works for me is John Mccain of the republican party.
I agree with his ideas of preventative measures when it comes to carbon emmisions and the idea that oil is not the answer.
Our vehicles can be more efficient if we just put our minds to it and McCain relises that that reality is achievable.
I like that McCain wants to put his mind to the matters that matter most such as the war in Iraq.
the decision to “finish it up” and not to leave the Iraqis hanging is best. there’s nothing more to do that wouldn’t cause more problems elsewhere.
i appriciate that McCain values education and wants the best for the children of the United States, being a child myself. However i greatly disagree that he doesn’t see two men or two woman together as a marriage.
It isn’t one of our biggest issues but it is still important. it is the right of the people to marry whom they choose. How can we call ourselves a free country if we aren’t able to marry the person of our choice. As I said before the matter has nothing to do with me, not now and probably not ever, but i just find that “messed up”.
The tax cut idea is one of most used by more than just McCain and it’d be nice to see that go through as well as seeing our economy stimulated.
I feel that McCain is the best Rpublican for our country.
As far as the DEMOCRAT goes, the tie is between Obama and Hilary… obviously.
It’d be nice to see America with a woman president just as it would be nice to see a man of color. but none of those things really matter.
I see that the both of them want the war to end and for our troops to come back home and that is a great oppinion, but what about all of the damage we’ve caused and the unfinished business we have to tend to?
On the other hand it seems like Hilary will make it a point to reach out to woman which is kinda cool considering i’m of the female sex. And i like that Obama wants to end prejudices and help out the minorities.
But when it comes down to it I THINK i’d rather see Obama in office.
OBAMA has new and different ideas that i would like to see become realities in our country.
Some of his main values are in family. It makes sense he says that a good family structure makes for successful children and good communities. this is deffinately one of our biggest issues today. can’t our parents work togethe?
nope and that messes up a lot of things.
Obama is smart with his matters and can see through the eye of the people.
Our country needs structure and Obama knows where to start.
Okay, time to pick my lesser of two evils…or really my 2 lesser of 5 evils since I have to choose both a Democrat and a Republican… according to Dave and Mr Barry who are working on the bathroom downstairs, the only Republican candidates left are McCain, Huckabee, and Ron Paul(it looked wierd just to put Ron Paul’s last name), and the only Democrats left are Hilary and Obama. So I am only going to pick from those 3/2 for my vote.
Okay, for Republican:
McCain:
Supports No Child Left Behind; wants a national education policy; Against gay marraige; wants to lower costs for health care; wants the troops home from Iraq, but understands that it is not possible to do that immeadiatly; wants to improve the enviroment by using biodiesle, fuel cells, affordable battery-powered vehicles, ect.(individuals show be doing it basically, but he wants it affordable so they switch over); tighten boarder security; believes tht law abiding citizens have the right to bear arms, and notices that criminals ignor that law against no gun carrying anyway, so ppl who are good are only getting their guns taken away; does not support stem cell research.
Huckabee:
Wants to change health care coverage so that it stops problems in the beginning, and is more afforable; supports bringing our troops home, but gradually (no deadline); wants to use H-cell cars and all of that so we have less green-house emmissions; wants to secure our boarder; supports no child left behind; opposed to gay marrage; supports stem-cell research.
Ron Paul:
Wants to lessen the gov’t involvement w/ health care; wants to withdraw troops from Iraq as soon as “military possible”; encourages the development of E-efficiant technologies, and they should be cheaper & more abundant for people; tighten boarder security; does not support no child left behind; does not think constitution should be changed about gay-marriage; does not support gun control laws; does not support stem-cell research.
Okay, that paragraph above is just me putting down thier views, and shortening some of them. One of my biggest issues is the No child left behind. I think it is stupid because no matter what there are going to be some students who don’t want to learn and will fight that rule and that hurts the other students since everyone is focused on that student. Ron Paul was the only one who didn’t support NCLB, so he is top at the moment. Next, gay marriage. I believe that if you love someone of your own sex that that’s you. you can’t change that. so if you want to get married with that person, you should be able to. Yet again, Ron Paul is the only one to hold the same view as me for that issue, so 2 for him, none for McCain or Huckabee. All three of them basically want to lower health care, so I’m basically ignoring that subject. Iraq: Ron Paul wants the troops home immeadiatly, while McCain and Huckabee understand tht isn’t possible, and it will be gradual. So they get my vote for that. So now my count is 2-Ron Paul 1-McCain 1-Huckabee. All of them have kinda the same views on enviroment and that stuff, so that’s another issue i’m ignoring for now, along w/ boarder security. Now for gun control. I think that the gun control laws are stupid and pointless b/c if a criminal wants a gun, they are going to get one. So they do nothing. All candidates have that same view basically (even if I forgot to put tht up there like I think I did w/ Huckabee), so that is another thing I’m ignoring. Huckabee is the only one who supports stem cell research, so that makes the score 2-Ron Paul 1-McCain 2-Huckabee, cause I support stem cell research. I guess that means my chioce would be between Ron Paul and Huckabee. I guess if I had to choose one, I’d choose Ron Paul now, even though I know tht’s not who I chose in our elections in our class. But that day I didn’t really look at all of the issues. But I would choose Ron Paul mostly b/c he is the only one of the Republican candidates that didn’t support NCLB and did support gay marraige.
Now for the Democrats:
Hilary Clinton:
wants more affordable health care; wants an end date for the war in Iraq and wants troops out of there; wants to reduce greenhouse emissions, and cut foreign oil imports; tighten boarder security; 1/2 supports NCLB; wants to make college more affordable; does not support changing of constitution w/ reguares to gay marriage; wants more background checks for buying guns, supports 2nd amendment; supports stem cell research.
Obama:
Wants everyone to have health care; wants to begin withdrawing troops immediatly; supports hybrids and wants more research to go there; wants to tighten boarders; supports NCLB, but thinks it should be changed; supports gay marriage; wants to change gun ban so it has “common-sense” measures; supports stem-cell research.
Okay, with the Republicans I gave my views on stuff so for the Democrats I’m basically just going to tally it up. Both candidates support NCLB, but think it should be changed. Both support gay marraige. Both want troops out of Iraq immediatly. Both want health care. Now that I’m really looking at the issues, they have almost the same view on my main things. But I think that I would have to put Hilary. Why? Because she was the only candidate that I read something about for helping college funds. As in it would be lower for us. And that is probably the biggest thing for me since I, just like the rest of you doing this blog, am going to be graduating highschol soon. So the fact that she said something about college costs being too high is what gets me to support her. My only problem with hilary is her trying to look like she is innocent and not like the other candidates sine she is a women.
So I guess my votes go to Ron Paul and Hilary Clinton.
And before I hit “submit comment” I’d like to say that anyone voting for hilary cause she’s a girl or obama cause he is black is just stupid. cause they could be the worse candidates for the job, but are getting support cause they are different then everyone else.
and all of my info for the issues came from washingtonpost.com
Democrats: To start off, I do not think Hillary Clinton is capable of withholding the position of the President of The United States. I am not trying to stereotype but, a woman president is not the ordinary. Also, Hillary’s viewpoints on issues are unrealistic to myself. In addition, if Hillary were to become president, who would be the first lady, Bill?
My vote for democrat would have to be held with Barack Obama due to many reasons. The following of his views on issues stand the same with myself. He supports the death penalty, which is very smart because why would we keep someone stuck up in a prison for life, allowing them to have a chance to escape and become a threat to the world again. Why not just get rid of them and save money on food, clothing and health care. The issue of stem cell research also came across. He supports that, as do I, due to it is research, which could one day give us knowledge of that field. You can’t find something without looking.Guns are another issue. He supports the banning of assault weapons which is a good idea, due to it reduces the amount of assault weapons on the street legally. I do, as he does too, believe there should always be a background check done before a gun is sold. My reason being we do not want to have criminals buying guns. That would not be good. Wiretapping is an issue that we both believe is unconstitutional. We, the people, do not withhold our privacy if our phones calls are being tapped.
Regarding immigrants, illegals should have a path that they are able to come to for citizenship, which all it does is make our population grow.
The BIG debate, the Iraq war. Everything about it is wrong. We both do not support the war. Why can’t there just be peace for all. That never seems to be an option, only in dreams. Now, same sex marriage should not be banned. Along with same sex civil union and the same sex constitutional ban. Don’t get me wrong, I am straight, but I see that whole issue as if you want to roll that way, go ahead. I warn them just to stay away from me.
So i just typed all of my republican choice and I clicked submit comment and it went back to the blog homepage. So here we go again.
So i just typed all of my republican choice and I clicked submit comment and it went back to the blog homepage. So here we go again.
Republican: My nomination for the republican party would be John McCain. My reason being he supports the following issues along with Obama. His ideas are the same about the death penalty, background check for guns, HS wiretapping, immigration citizenship and constitutional ban against same sex. One issue he supports other than the ones just stated, is the educational law of no child left behind. My insights are the if a perons is not educated, they are most likely not to succeed in life. They may say they don’t care, but you know they do. An education is needed in this world to succeed in life. Many kids do not have motivation to excel in school and this law helps that situation. No one deserves to be left behind.
To conclude, out of 25 issues i read over, Barack Obama received 16 issue votes and John McCain received a small 9 votes. Therefore, my nominations are Obama and McCain. The number of votes on issues I gave is suprising due to my whole family is republican.
Last but not least, my thoughts on who will win the presidential race. I believe the primary will narrow our choices down to Hillary Clinton
and John McCain. That is because of recent thoughts and numbers throughout our nation. As much as I do not want Hillary to become president, i think she might end up becoming our first lady president and for the first time in history we will have a guy as a first lady. Just think of it now, First Lady Bill Clinton. Haha
All this presidential controversy is starting to hurt my brain so that’s all folks.
Being only 16 i am not allowed to vote yet. However, if i were, my choice would be with the Democrats. Now, i know that the two top Candidates happen to be Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Honestly, my vote would go for Hillary. Now, my family seems to have a lot of trouble with Health insurance and she seems to be the one to fix it. Also college, it is very big in my family. Not many of my family members have attended collage but i certainly want to be the one to break that chain! Hillary claims that the prices for college are too high and young adults shouldn’t be penalized for their education just because of financial problems. This issue that she has addressed is something i could find very beneficial in my future. Next, we Americans often forget about the major issues going on the Third World countries. For example, Darfur is going through almost another “holocaust.” Women and children are being raped and about 2.million refugees have become of Darfur. Darfur is close to Chad and Egypt. We being the United States have the power to help them. Hillary Clinton is hoping to change what’s happening in Darfur. This willingness to help others with the health insurance, decrease cost of college, and other countries besides our self, is a BIG plus for me! When Bill Clinton was in office everyone seemed to be doing good financially. I am only to hope the same happens when Hillary Clinton (hopefully) goes into office. “We don’t want people just thinking we can do something, we have to be prepared …we have to be able to take the steps.”-Hillary Clinton. This statement means a lot to me. In my opinion i think its saying that we all just can’t say (for example,) “we’re going to war!” One has to be prepared to go to war. She is saying that she will prepare our country for whatever lies ahead. Also, Mrs. Clinton understands that there are nessacery steps that one must take to accomplish something the right way. Anyway back to what i was saying about the college issue. Do you know that Clinton won the youth vote in Massachusetts and California!? This is big. She says that kids need a president who is always ready, ready for anything, and the college issue helps too = ) Now, moving on to barack obama. Personally i think he brainwashes his viewers. I think he says what people WANT to hear but truthfully, can he back it up? Honestly, if he were to get put into office can he truly back up what he says? He watches his voters get happy when he says things to advertise his campaign, but is he just saying or perhaps doing things for popularity. This concludes to Hillary being my choice for The Democrat Party. For the Republicans, id have to say im not a BIG fan, but if I HAD to choose it would most likely be McCain. He refers to many issues. These issues include, abortion, drugs, energy and oil, and economy. My focus is on the Energy and Oil. Gas prices and oil is getting out of control. He believes and hopes that some of the money that goes into the oil industry should be used to help SOLVE the nation’s energy problems. He also says that there should be more research in alternate energy. This is a big issue that I happen to be very interested in. With Global warming and gas prices increasing, when is somebody going to stop with the war and worry about our world? He wants the troops to come home, this allows more time to worry about other, somewhat more IMPORTANT issues. He focuses much on the environment including gas, GREEN, oil, and alternate energy. He wants peace. All of these add up. With my research I find him the most eligible candidate for the Republicans. His ideas make sense and can be VERY beneficial to the government. My two choices remain, Hillary and McCain.
Personally, I feel that Mrs. Clinton would be the best representative for the Democratic Party. Her views on immigration (she believes in amnesty for illegal immigrants), education (No Child Left Behind should DIE!!), gun control (more of it), abortion rights (pro-choice), homosexual nuptial rights (same-sex marriage should be legal), and of course the one on which I’ve been harping, HEALTHCARE. I feel that much like labor unions, insurance as a whole is now out to do one thing: MAKE MONEY. Her plan, or rather her husband’s plan, would stop that capitalist cancer in our society, or at least check it.
As for the Republicans, Mr. Romney would have my vote. Despite his feelings on abortion, same-sex marriage and education, he still would seem the safest man to hold the High Office.
My Nominee for the Democratic Nomination:
Barack Obama.
Barack Obama, one of the nominees of the democratic party, Barack Obama, would be my choice to win that nomination. A charismatic speaker, he is filled with pride for his country, and it is obvious he has big plans on which to improve our nation. Global Warming, which is such a prevalent threat today, is one problem which he wants to begin to set the pace to correct. He has said that if he were to become president, he would reinstate a $150 billion, 10 year plan to reduce energy use, in order to save energy and attempt to reduce global warming. Although he does not back universal health care, unlike hilary clinton, Barack Obama has created a 16 month time table for the withdrawl of our troops from Iraq. I agree with this decision, because i believe that before universal health care is made available to the masses, that we should bring home the courageous soldiers that have fought their part in the war and who deserve to come home. Barack Obama also plans to have $80 billion dollars in tax breaks which would then go to the poor and elderly suffering on a daily basis in our country. Personal beliefs also make me happy that he does favor abortion rights, as they are necessary in some terrible circumstances. And personal experiences that i have gained throughout my years in schoolings, agree with his choice not to prohibit same-sex marriages. All these rights should not be taken away from the women and men who may desire them. Those are my beliefs on why Barack Obama should win the nomination of the Democratic Party.
This next decision was quite hard for me, because throughout the work done for this blog it became obvious to me that I, myself, am a democrat. And I realized that i had been biasedly following the Democratic Race for the Nomination more than the Republican. Therefore, disappointingly, now i do not know that much about my choice John McCain. I do know some aspects about his campaign, of which i do agree with. Although i personally do not want to see a republican elected into office again this coming november, if i absolutely had to, I would choose John McCain to receive the nomination. John McCain is favorable of less restrictions being placed on stem cell research and funding for stem cell research. I do agree with this becuase stem cell research has the ability to open new doors in the scientific community, and could even provide us with the truth of the secrets that are left unknown with various diseases. John McCain is also favorable of tougher fuel restrictions, and that is a good choice. I believe if everyone in the world “went green” that we, the people, would not be such a prevalent threat our earth. John McCain does not seem to be my favorite candidate overall, but seeing as I have to choose a Republican Candidate to win the nomination, he would be my choice.
This election will prove to be an interesting race and the outcome will undoubtedly change our nation as a whole.
If I was voting in the upcoming election, my vote would go to the Democrats. More specifically, Hillary (Hildog. lol) Clinton. Her views on everything mirror mine, and I think she would be an amazing president (and clean up the terrible mess Bush has left her). She is pro-choice for abortion, which is good. I’m against abortion as much as the next guy - but I think it should be still an option for rap*e (I had to put the star there, it wouldn’t let me post that word. lol)victims and people of that category. Reducing greenhouse emmisions, making college more affordable, and legalizing same-sex marriage are awesome things to promote. I think alot of her ideas are for the best of our country and will turn it around, making it a better place to live. Her ideas on gun control and illegal immigration are safe and should make our country feel more secure (at least I would). All in all, she would make a great president, as her husband was. I look forward to seeing her in the white house! : )
For the Republicans,
I would choose Mitt Romney.
That’s only if I HAD to choose a Republican. I’ve always agreed with Democratic ideas more then Republican ones, but oh well. His ideas on oil consumption are great. She should definitely stop (or at least try to) depending on countries we are at war with, for oil. He seems like a pretty safe guy to have as a president.
But, I’m a Hillary fan for lifee.
: )
This is great!! You guys have, for the most part, dug in and gotten to know these candidates on a more personal level then the typical teenager. I applaud you for that. Understanding the various nuances of our national political environment is HARD. And on top of that you are making choices using your ‘guts’, good evidence, and research. Some of you have even expressed suprise in what you have found that you beleive in. This is what education is all about. Taking in that deep breath and tackling the choice of candidates for the two national parties is ‘taking the path less traveled’ for you, and you are growing intellectually in leaps and bounds.
Some of the posts have included some great research and I thank you guys that put in wesites for the rest of us to check out. It is great reading that you are checking them out and thus you are influencing each other. I did see some wording that you were picking a president, careful you were to pick the winner for each party. If you want to pick the ultimate winner by all means go right ahead, just remember to back up your choice with ‘why’.
So folks, bask in the glow of knowledge but don’t stop now!!! For those of you still needing to post…what are you waiting for? DIVE IN! It won’t hurt!
With the candidates dropping like flies the choices are being narrowed down rapidly. My choice for Republican to write about in this blog was Romney, but he dropped out before I could post. Ah well, that’s what I get for procrastination, I suppose. I went back and updated my research, so I’m going to hurry up and type this before any more candidates run out of money to spend on vying for the attention of the electoral college and a space for their names in the history books. (Oh, the places you can go with the dollar! But I digress, that is another discussion entirely.)
I begin with the Democrats: Clinton and Obama. (Yes, I know there are other candidates, but be realistic, the only real competition is between these two.) I feel like I’m in a caught between a rock and a hard place with my Democratic vote. On the one hand, Hillary Clinton. Hillary (who’s first-name-basis campaign makes her feel too familiar and almost weak) is the first woman to really have a chance at the presidency. Don’t get me wrong, I would be delighted to have a female president… just not Hillary. I don’t want history to be able to say that the first female president only made it to office because of her husband. I’m not saying that Ms. Clinton *is* fueling her campaign with her husband’s name, in fact, I think he is hurting her more than helping her. But history is not kind to its subjects and I’m trying to be realistic. I fear that any action she takes against the “war on terror” (or whatever you want to call that steaming pile of roadkill in the middle east) will be seen as “womanly” and sheepish, and she will be critisized for it. Critics will be watching her like a hawk because of her gender and the shards of the “glass ceiling” still stuck in the minds of the rest of the world. Will she let those critics dog her steps and curb her every move? That is the big question in her campaign.
On the other hand, there is Barack Obama. He is Mr. Change. He has a vision of what America should be, and he promises to Change it for the better. He believes in peace, love, and granola. He has charisma, yes. But can he back it up with affirmative action? I’ve always been interested in political assasinations (no, Zoolander fans, they were not all carried out by male models) so I’ve done a bit of research into JFK, his policies and his campaign for the office that cost him his life. When Kennedy was campaigning, he used the same sort of message. He was young, charismatic and not as experienced as others. He was idealistic. He had a vision of America, all sunshine and rainbows. “Do not ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” he said. The people loved him, but once he got into office, he didn’t know what to do with himself (just look at what happened at the Bay of Pigs). I’m afraid Obama is going down the same path JFK went down (before his assasination, of course). Darwin forbid he meet such a tragic end.
I do have to hand it to Obama for admitting to having used marijuana in his youth. “I’m not the first politician to have used marijuana,” he said “just the first to tell the truth about it.” That earned him points in my book. I like his policies on health care and his pro-choice voting record. I do not agree with his opposition of gay marriage. He would rather call it “civil union”. Sorry folks, but separate but equal was deemed unconstitutional.
Back to Ms. Clinton. She too, is on the idealistic side, but not nearly so much as Obama. She understands that she is going to have a pile of work to do when and it she gets into office to clean up after the Bush administration. Her education policies are well-informed and will take American schools places if she is elected. She is the only candidate who has adressed our education crisis (aka No Child Left Behind), which earns her points in my forementioned book, but discredits her as womanish with critics. (see above) I agree with her policy on China, negotiations need to happen, and soon. She supports civil rights, and is shamelessly riding on her femenist policies to earn her the female vote. (I have no problem with this, I’m still disgusted at the discrimination in corporate offices) She has a voting history of pro-choice and pro-enviroment. So, my vote on the side of the Democrats goes to Ms. Clinton. (Hillary, if you must)
Now, to the Republicans. I was reading up on Mike Huckabee’s views, and I vomitted a little in my mouth. Umm… separation of church and state has been around since the founding of the country. Now a baptist minister is running for president… and leading in many states! Am I the only person frightened by this? Alright, I’m scaring myself, on to the more serious candidates.
John McCain. McCain, McCain. First off, I don’t agree with his views on abortion, but at least he wouldn’t outlaw it altogether if he were elected. He skirts the issues when it comes to gay rights, leaving “don’t ask, don’t tell” where it is and marriage laws to the states. I think he, like all of the other candidates (whatever their views), is afraid of loosing votes either way. Even on Hillary Clinton’s web site you really had to dig for information on her stand on gay rights. Back to McCain, I don’t like his proposed strictness on the death penalty (while I don’t believe it should be eliminated, I don’t think we need any more people on death row than we have now) and he has a loose interpretation of the 1st amendment. He believes that creationism should be decided by school districts. I don’t know about you, but I pity the child who moves from a district that teaches evolution to a creationist one.
“And God spake unto Adam…”
“But, Mr. Henderson, how did God know how to speak Neanderthaal?”
I agree that homeschooling should be supported, and McCain did vote to stop drilling oil on Alaskan wildlife reserves. I suppose I will have to go with the lesser of ills and give my Republican vote to John McCain.
DEMOCRATS
It is hard to choose a Democrat to vote for. It is basically just Clinton v. Obama, seeing as I ruled out Mike Gravel. I read a few of his quotes, and I dislike him too much to even consider him. Also the fact he doesn’t really “pop”. He has no gig, like the two front runners. SO the first topic I used to choose a candidate was their stance on Abortion. I am pro-life (not the time or place to delegate that), and both Clinton and Obama have the same percentage rating for pro-choice (96%), so thats out! So then I went to Civil Rights. Both are for gay rights, Clinton a bit more. Both are Affirmative-Action, Obama a bit more. So looking at their crime stances, Clinton gets a point. Two things that Obama stands for that I really do not are the Death Penalty (:O) and “no extra penalty for gang association”. I feel the Death Penalty is wrong, no matter which way you cut it. And saying that there isn’t a penalty for gang association is like overlooking a crime. Really, how many gangs out there just go around helping little old ladies across the street? Clinton pushed for stricter sex offender penalties which is very much needed. And she voted for stricter punishing for Hate Crimes, which could aid to deter or end hate crimes. I could not find enough information on Obama’s stances for education, and Clinton seemed to push for public school funding, but nothing else, so Education is a bunk subject. Obama gets the nod on Energy and Oil issues, because he stood stronger on trying to reduce America’s consumption of oil and stop the raping of Alaska for oil. Hillary Clinton voted practically the same way, but did not vote as strongly on reducing oil by so much. So, now that its a tie… I went to Immigration. And boy was that upsetting! I do not agree with EITHER of them. They are trying to give illegal aliens way too many rights, basically saying thy’re bad, but both turning their heads so they can continue in America. This was starting tog et frustrating, seeing as how both candidates are so closely matched in how they voted, so I decided to choose a candidate on… other factors… which people may not appprove of thinking of for such an important vote. First, I though of the debates. Hillary Clinton proved herself to be eloquent and, actually nice as of recent. Which is much more than I can say for Obama. I remember seeing him stumble wth everything he didn’t have a chance to recite, and I think that our president must be quick on their toes and ba able to really sway people with their speeches. So, go Hillary! Then I thought about their “titles” and “grabbers”. I think that Obama is using his race card waaay too much, especially calling for “change”. Its obviously change! Has he forgotten that he is going against a woman? Possbly the first woman president, and a Democrat! That is change! And he really is not much change than Hillary… So again, yay Hillary! SO I thought about things that were near and dear to me. Seeing as I haven’t heard them talk about anything I care about that much, I just decided Hillary Clinton gets my vote. She has more stands in common with me, and her clarity and elocution is something that I admire.
REPUBLICANS
Just to narrow it down from the start, I ruled out all the candidates I heard dropped, then the ones that have not even made the news (I watch the news every day, so I fell I can make this decision). Mike Huckabee and John McCain were left. First, again, I looked at abortion. Huckabee “respects choice as mandated law”, so even though pro-life, this exception kicked him out. John McCain is STRICT pro-life, so I gave him one point here. Looking at Civil Rights, there was no clear winner. Huckabee did stand for things that I believe, but not very far. I felt like he believed that everyone was equal, but not AS equal as others, leaving sexual orientation and almost all races out to dry. McCain is not so liberal here (ironic, eh :P), but some of his policies made me sick. Banning same-sex marriage AND banning affirmative-action hiring with federal funds. I was too disgusted to even choose one of them. So onto education, I chose McCain again, because he just seemed flexible here, like he is against some things but wont rule them out. McCain just seems more fair than Huckabee, who only seemed to be passionate about raising teachers salaries (I couldn’t find a specific amount, so I just ruled it out as a “promise” that he’d forget fast). All of the rest of their issues really seemed muddled and unclear. There are some things you really need to delegate a position. So, I just tallied up what I have and John McCain is the clear-cut Republican winner.
So, in conclusion, Clinton and McCain are my two choices. Clinton based on her liberal-enough attitude and her great speaking. McCain for being the least of two evils :P.
Okay, I had to do my research on this because I realized that I had no idea what was going on in this election. I’m not the person for talking politics. But I’ve come to agree with Barack Obama for the Democrats and John McCain for the Republicans. Both of these men would change the No Child Left Behind Law so as not to hold students like us back. This is something we face everyday. If you have any college bound classes you know more than most how there is no challenge. The teachers may think they are doing the best by keeping everyone together but its very boring to us.
Although they may share the same opinion on education, they have totally opposite views on the war in Iraq. Obama wants to bring the soldiers home as soon as possible. Who doesn’t want that, right? But McCain says that we should clean up our mess. He wants to send more troops over to rebuild the city. This may sound very bad to you but in a way its good. If we help fix up the ruins then leave we may create alliances. But this is what Bush tried to do and he didnt have much luck. I personally would pack up and leave instead of putting more of our brothers, fathers
and husbands and even sisters, mothers and wives in danger. They seem to think that they can do it on there own, maybe when we leave they will realize how much we helped (or didn’t). But that is why I choose those candidates.
Choosing a candidate for the elections was not an easy choice for me. I had to research a lot. So here goes.
For the Democrats I would hands down go with Obama. He hits a lot of the issues that are important to me. For our environment he has a plan to reduce 80% of carbon emissions by 2050. He wants to fund research for biofuels. He also wants to stop the deforestation. Obama plans to accelerate the commercialization of plug-in-hybrids, and invest in low emissions coal plants. Obama also wants to fund for more solar and wind resources. Not only does he care about the environment, but he has a well thought out plan. Obama also has a good plan for our education; this is a very important issue to me because I’m still in school. He wants to make the educational programs better for children from zero to five. By doing this it will ensure that more kids will be ready for kindergarten. He also wants to reform the No Child Left Behind program. Obama wants to improve the standardized testing to measure the students’ readiness for college and the workplace. Obama wants to fund for more after school programs, help families in need of educations, and also make the drop out rate go down. The last major issue for me is health care. Unlike his opponent Hilary, Obama wants to make health care more affordable, instead of bumping up everyone else’s taxes to make healthcare free for everyone. There will be new national health plans that won’t turn people away because of pre-existing illnesses. They will also cover maternity and mental health care. Those are both very important to me because my mom just had a baby and I know how expensive it is. Also my Uncle suffers from a mental illness and it can be financially very hard on families. If those two things were always covered by insurance companies a lot of people would be out of debt. Obama also wants to make health care have easy enrollment. Overall I think Obama is the best democratic candidate. He covers a lot of important issues.
Republicans
For republicans, I like Huckabee the best. He is adamant about fixing health care, and has a good stand on a lot of issues. Huckabee also believes that music and the arts should stay in school. He believes that they are not just extra curricular activities. They are not and should not be treated that way. A lot of schools are taking out music and art programs, Huckabee wants to stop this. When Huckabee was governor of Arkansas, the test scores there were raised drastically because of his education reforms. Huckabee is the best republican candidate.
This was not an easy blog for me, never really caring about politics, I most certainly had to do my research. I looked at all of the issues and decided who agreed with the same things I did. One issue I didn’t look at was abortion. I’m not saying that I am for abortion, however, that is a personal thing, that is decided on a situation by situation deal. I am sort of nervous or not sure if I want to vote in 2012, we will see I guess. I also want to thank Franki for the USA Today Quiz, I took that while doing my research.
I am going to start with the Democrats. I am going to have to give my “vote” to Barack Obama. Obama speaks and takes care of all the issues that are important to me. Not only does he address them he has a well thought out plan to what he wants to do. The first issue I am going to start with is:
Education - I choose this because education is so imporant in life. Without education, you are going to have a hard time going anywhere to be honest. His idea to fix this is, the “Zero to Five” plan, he wants to change the fact that teachers have to spend most of the year preparing for standardized bubble tests, and he wants to take the time to really test children on their readiness for college and their improvement levels. He wants to address the drop-out crisis, increase summer learning oppurtunities, and after-school oppurtunities.
Poverty- The reason I picked poverty was becuase if the education and drop-out rate decreases I think the poverty level will also decrease. They pretty much go hand in hand. Barack Obama wants to expand access to jobs, make work pay for all Americans, Strengthen Families, Increase the supply of affordable housing, and tackle concentrated poverty. This most likely will take alot of funding, however to me it is worth it.
Immagration- How many times have you tried to get help in a store or a fast food place and you have to stumble through a conversation with someone that has trouble speaking English. And how frustrated do you get? And how many of you laugh or agree with those shirts on the wildwood boardwalk, “welcome to america, now speak English”. Now don’t get me wrong, I do not have a problem with them holding a job and trying to get along in this world, but do it llegaly, and pay American taxes along with the rest of the working class. Barack Obama wants to create secure borders, improve our immagration system, remove incentives to enter illegaly, bring people out of the shadows, and work with mexico.
Now saying stuff and doing it is one thing, But i believe that Barack Obama will take the appropriate measures to help America and the imporant issues.
Now for the republican: Mike Huckabee.
Education - Mike Huckabee claims that the Arkansas test scores rose when he was Governer. He also says that he wants states to make their own standerized tests. He also still wants to enforce the No Child Left Behind Law, he just wants every child to have an equal oppurtunity in their education. As he said our children’s education will reflect our future country.
Immagration - Securing the borders must be a top priority situation. “In this age of terror, immigration is not only an economic issue, but also a national security issue. Those caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.” (Hukabee) this is a situation that needs to be taken care of. We need to get America back to being America filled with American citizens. The way it should be.
Same-Sex Marriage - Huckabee doesn’t support same-sex marraige, he has always thought it to be between a man and a women. And thats what I believe it should be. When people started to get married there was never that idea of same-sex people getting married.
These are the two canidates that i have choose. Barack Obama for Democrat and Mike Huckabee for Republican.
I would like to see Huckabee win the Republican nomination because I like his views. The most important reasons are He’s agianst abortion (that’s the main reason). And, no affense to ANYONE, he’s against gay marriages
I would like to see Huckabee win the Republican nomination. The major reasons are he’s against abortion,( that’s the most important). No offense to ANYONE, but I’m also against same-sex marriages, like him. Another big thing for me is that he’s a Christian, not that his religion really matters, I’m just comforted by that fact. Just because I want him to win doesn’t mean he will. By the looks of the blogs it looks like most people want…
Romney … 6
Huckabee ..4
McCain…..8
Paul…….1
…something like that
I don’t know much about the Democrats, so I’m going to say….Obama. I don’t really know why, but I don’t think our country is ready for a woman to be president. And I heard from a very reliable source that Clinton wants to ban videogames rated “M” for mature,(I only play “E”&”T”, but my brother plays “M”, so I’m thinking of him).
I’m going to do some more research and get back to you on the Democrats. I’ve got to write like eight journals in an hour. Wish me luck. =)
First I’d like to say that there’s no way I could type as much as the above blogs, and second I don’t even know much of the election. I personally would consider myself a Republican yet for the most part am completely independent. As for the upcoming election I honestly don’t think the Republicans have any chance whatsoever. I really don’t care for the Republicans this year and frankly I don’t know them very well. Now the Democrats are reallly popular this time around and I can’t say I’m a fan of the Clintons. With not much of a choice left I’m choosing Barak Obama (hope I spelled his name right), mainly and the fact that I feel change is good. I think I’m making a good choice, but who knows? I mean from the last elections I actually liked Bush (hope I don’t get hurt for that), anyway I pretty much decided that a Democrat is wining this year. Not just looking at my opinons I honestly belive Barak will win it all, I mean come on he’s got Oprah on his side. Pretty much anyway who’s famous and a minority has a great chance. I bet Brittany Spears could run even. She’s got my vote. (Just kidding)
I don’t think my blog is going to look as glorious as some of the ones above, but I’ll do my best to get my point across.
DEMOCRAT: I’d have to choose Barack Obama for the Democratic candidate. I’ve always had something against Hilary, even when Bill was president, but I still looked at both candidates’ issues and preferred Obama’s anyway. The main reason he received my vote is that I like his views on education. Preparing students for college is the way to go. I find that the classes that I have where the teachers do try to get us ready for college are much more beneficial than the classes that don’t. If all teachers did this, students’ educations would expand even further while they are in still in high school. Decreasing the drop out rate is also a great idea because I hate being surrounded by dumb people. Obama’s ideas on preventing illegal immigration are also good. We definitely need to strengthen our borders and get rid of these illegal aliens. You can go anywhere and find someone working that you doubt is an actual citizen.
REPUBLICAN: As far as the Republicans go, I side with Mike Huckabee. Again, education is probably my main concern here. I don’t want to live in a country that consists of a bunch of poorly educated people. As much as I disagree with it, I have to support the No Child Left Behind Law. This will help students get better educations, even though we don’t like to have those kids in our classes. I also have to agree with his views on the illegal immigration as well. We need to get these people out of the country as soon as we catch them. I really don’t have any problem with immigrants, just make sure they are legal. I also agree with Huckabee’s views on same-sex marriage to an extent. He doesn’t support it and neither do I. Well, I really don’t have a huge problem with it, but I do think its wrong. The idea kind of just creeps me out.
I know a lot of these candidates are a bunch of talk, but I do believe these two, Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee, will carry out their ideas if elected as president.
soo..i think i would be with the democratic party if i could votee.
democrat i would deff have to go with hillary… i like her compassion. she is right the troops need to come home.. they have been fighting a war that isnt even against a country. the terriost are the poeple they need to find.. innocent poeople are dying.. well back to politics. hilary knows what she is doing and how to handle certain cituations. she has alot more expierence than obama. and when the united states is in a recession(it think thts the word), which it is right now. i dont htink obama has the expierence to do what needs to be done. so go hillary!
republican- i would have to say mccain, not that i liek him all that much. ui jsut really dont like huckabee. i seriously think that he is crazy. for the abortions and same sex marrige… people should want to do what they want withthier lives.. in some cases abortions are not good and others they are. same-sex marrige.marrige is about love,if you feel that way about anyone man or women you should be able to make the next step. i think huckabee is really religious and i sont think that, thats a bad thing but it might be if he is the comander in chief.
so goo hillary i love her. =]
Sorry about the extra entry my computer was freaking out and I had to start over again.
So, good news, I finished my journals. Like I said , I’m getting back with my democratic vote. I still think that Obama would be the best choice for a democrat(even though I would totally not vote for a dem. at all). I think it’s a good idea that Obama wants to open up a bunch of jobs. There are thousands of people that are in desperate need of a job and he’s trying to make that number go down. He also wants to lower the amount of illegals crossing the border. That’s important because they are taking a bunch of jobs that Americans could have and they don’t pay any taxes. If people couldn’t cross the border then they couldn’t live off of our money and taxes would go down. Aren’t we all in favor of lower taxes?
So my choices are Huckabee and Obama. I hope they both do well.

Well..its 7:29 on a friday night and I should be out with Alex and Chelsea, but since Ive been sick all day that wasnt an option. ohh and thankss to bobo for reminding me to do this!
K so I read most of your blogs and I must say that we all have many different opinions… and Amelia’s crackss me up! First thing I must say is, that our government is so corrupt. Everyone is like I like their views on religion blahh blahh blahh. Well I thought they seperated church and state along time ago? Just saying, yeah you should have a religious beliefs and what not but I dont think it should be brought into our government.. k sorry.. little bit of a tangent, but its Huckabee’s fault.
So Democrats.. Barack Obama. All the way.. I think alot of people are standing behind Hillary not because of what she believes in, but because shes a woman. I believe it would be amazing to have a woman president, but thats not very important right now compared to real problems. k so..
Poverty I think is really important. We are one of the richest nations in the world and there is no reason for anyone to be living on the streets. Obama wants to make jobs pay for all americans and to make housing more affordable so I really believe in that because I think all people should be able to live that “american dream”.
Huge thing For me is the war. With a 20 year old brother who almost enlisted in the national gaurd, the war scares me. Many of my brothers friends enrolled and they are like big brothers to me as well and I do not want to see them go to Iraq. Obama has been critiquing the war and how its been handled since 2002. And hes right. Our troops are doing an amazing job over there, but theres only so much they can do until the big guyss in charge step up and take action! Obama wants to help set up the government and get out as soon as possible, which is a really really good thing.
“We must neither retreat from the world nor try to bully it into submission - we must lead the world, by deed and example.”
I really like his beliefs on veterans as well. My grandparents, dad, and other people in my family are veterans as well. It may be wierd to think about, but alot of our friends will be veterans one day, as well as my brothers friends that i mentioned before (and their health and well being means A LOT to me). No one that fought for our country and our liberties should be homeless or penniless. Do you know how many veterans spend time on the streets every year? About 400,000. Thats rediculous and Obama is trying to change that.
So thats just some of the stuff I like about Barack Obama..So ill go to Hillary.
First off, who are we actually voting for? I THINK BILL! With all of the smears hes said about Barack, I think hes such an idiot. These campaigns should be run clean and fair, and Bill doesnt care about that, obviously. I also agree with amelia on the fact that her campaign seems to nice and week.
No effense to Stef B whos myspace I took this off but I do not want Hillary to be my homegirl, I would want her to be my president! Ok so that was kindof a joke.. but let’s get serious. Hillary’s “war against terror” seems so girlyy. Your the president, and it is not considered a mom job. If you take a nice approach to the middle east situation, your going to get burned. Its just a fact.
And even though id I had a vote, I would vote democrat, the assasination thing worries me. With both of the democratic canidates being soo unique, it seems we could be going down that road, but I hope not. I guess its just the way of the countryy. I wish we could see past race and religion and gender and all those things, but not everyone is as open minded as a lot of us!
So, even though I dont want to, Im going to move on to the Republican party, and man are they dropping like flies. The sad thing is, is that I really dislike BOTH of them.
This is from McCains website…
“John McCain agrees with retired Army General Jack Keane that there are simply not enough American forces in Iraq”
thatss a bunchh of crapp. Sorry but its what I believe. We have like 150,000 troops there now. (Im not too sure on this number but its what I found and my mom is guessing its right. Let me know if Im wrong) WE DONT NEED MORE TROOPS IN IRAQ. WE NEED LESS! No more lives need to be lost. Those men and women want to come home and we want them here. I dont see Republicans as good people. No effense or anything to anyone. I just hate that they keep saying…
” We are in this war to win it”
Like shut up. I honestly dont think its about winning. We need to help the people and GET OUT. We have disrupted their lives and ours and its about time that we show a little bit of respect to those people.
And about education..
this was on his site as well..
“John McCain believes our schools can and should compete to be the most innovative, flexible and student-centered – not safe havens for the uninspired and unaccountable.”
I think thats rude, if it means what i think it means. He doesnt care about the people in this country, just about himself, atleast thats what I am seeing.
And To Huckabee, I honestly just think hes a looney tune!! I really do not like the fact that hes all about his faith. Faith is important to me as well, but Im not running for president. I hate when people try to force their religious beliefs on me and I feel like thats what he is doing.
So can you tell I am sick and bored? So, Obama All the way. And because of something else I forgot to mention…
I like Obama’s stance on energy. I like that hes all about the solar power and other types of energy other then oil and such. It pollutes our environment and our bodies. Plus the pasture lands for our horses, which means a lot to me, but probably not you.
Well..it is 8:51 and I’ve been writing this for over an hour, although i also ate dinner and am watching project runway. have a nice weekend everyone. See ya on tuesday( ugh, speak easy)
hahaha jalessa your crazyy… 60 to 90 minutessssss. hahahahah. love ittt. ohh and my blog did include some really funny pictures, but they arent on there, so I guess this blog is one you cant put pictures up? but they were funnyyyy.
DEMOCRAT: My choice for the democratic party would be Barack Obama. Just like everyone else my main reason for choosing him is veiw on education. Schools arent doing enogh to better us for college. All they care about are state exams and not enough about preparation for college. Another reason why i like Obama is because he wants to increase energy independece. I want our country to fix global warming so much and Obama is going to support it. Also he supports universal health care. If everybody had health care maybe it would turns peoples frowns upside down.
REPUBLICANS: My choice for republican is Ron Paul. One reason i vote for him is because he thinks that the war in Iraq is bogus and we need to get our troops out. Also i like Ron because he belives that the U.S citizen doesnt have enough privacy. I feel that anybody in the world can find out anything about me. The goverment wants a National I.D. But Ron paul turned it down, which will give us more privacy. Finally he strongly supports to defend our U.S. border from anyone who would harm us. I am very scared of another terroristic attack so i hope that if ron paul is elected he will prevent this
I believe that your two final canidates will be Barack Obama and Ron Paul
my mouse keeps on flipping out and this is the third time i’ve had to re-do this, so im mad and it wont be as good as the first two times i did this….
Here we go again…
I’m 15 and way too young to vote, but I intend to vote as soon as I turn 18. I will always vote democratic and I’ll tell you why… Republican political figures seem to run us into the ground often locally and federally. Christie Todd Whitman screwed NJ so far into debt that we keep on borrowing money and NJ still struggles. As for federally, George Bush Sr. screwed us financially when he wasted money in Desert Storm and didn’t even finish the job. Then Bill Clinton picked our country up and got us out of debt and actually created a surplus that was still there when he left office. So somehow George Bush Jr. went into an unnecessary war to finish what daddy started, and managed to throw us into a $9,293,627780,639.23 debt. HOW DO YOU CLEAN THIS MESS UP?!!??!? Bring in the democrats.
DEMOCRATIC PARTY: Hillary Clinton
Hillary is pro-choice, and I honestly sit on the fence on the abortion subject. She also supports giving illegal immigrants a second chance at making their citizenship legal. In October of 2002, Hillary Clinton had voted to use military force in Iraq, but has totally changed her mind since having made the decision. I am 100% against the war so I was unsure after reading hat she was one of the monsters who voted for it in the first place. She is for middle-class tax cuts, and believes the rich don’t pay their fair share. Clinton is actually the only democrat who mentions anything about tax deductions on college tuition. One thing that really got me on her side is her view on the health care issue. Hillary thinks that all Americans should be covered, and I didn’t expect that so I was quite impressed. I support same-sex marriage because I feel that everyone should marry the one they are in love with, but Clinton opposes it. Although she does feel that the decision should ultimately be up to the states. Ms. Clinton also wants to do away with NCLB, which I feel is utterly pointless. I feel a little biased in my decision because I am expecting that Bill will be helping Hillary and, FACE IT, with that debt we need his assistance.
Also, after reading Brett’s blog and finding out that Barack Obama supports the death penalty, I felt obligated to pick Hillary. I HATE the idea of a death penalty.
REPUBLICAN PARTY: Mike Huckabee
Huckabee has signed a pledge not to raise taxes and would lower the taxes of those with the lowest incomes. He is only semi-supportive of NCLB, which isn’t as bad as total support, and is in favor of the arts and music programs in schools. Huckabee opposes abortion, which doesn’t really matter to me. He has the relatively same idea as Clinton in the way that illegal immigrant should be able to have a second chance. Sadly Huckabee supports the war, but so do most republicans. He straight-up opposes same-sex marriage, and doesn’t believe that it should be up to the states. Huckabee does not like the current health care system but does oppose coverage for all. I kind of liked a little bit of each of the republican’s campaign, so I went with my gut feeling.
I believe that the two of these candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, would actually carry out whatever they pledge.
I think the best person to be the next president should be McCain, because I done like Hillary or obama. Also mccain supports the war. I don’t want there to be a war but it would be completely pointless if we pulled out now. Hillary doesnt want to pull out but I don’t like her. McCain 4 PREZ!
First of all Jalessa, I didn’t blog at 8:22 because I was busy bowling. Right now it’s about 11:30 so I have to try to make it by 12. And by the way…that cake was awesome, too bad you didn’t get any because you bit me in class and now I need to get a doctor’s appointment.
Okay so if i was able to vote i would most likely vote for Barack Obama for president. Now, I dont really play into all of that first black president stuff because our country is supposed to be all equal so what is really the difference. I more so chose Barack Obama because of the fact that i like his opinions and views on subjects protaining to me. Although Hillary Clinton is big on children’s issues and everything, she is too much of a risk for president. The CLinton campaign is pretty much a two for one deal that this country just isnt ready for right now. But let’s alk about Barack for a little bit now. I think he would be a good president because he can touch base with many different groups of people in our country. He also cares a ton about education, and when education is made accessable by the government, the country gets stronger. I also think that Barack is confident but not cocky. And I also like how he doesnt run all that many negative campaigns against the competition. I feel that with those reasons he is a team player which would make him a good president.
Now if i had to vote for a republican, it would be John McCain. Since i dont really agree with some of the republicans views all that much, its hard to pay attention to their presidential front-runners, but the one guy i have been paying attention to that is still in the race is McCain. He has done a very good job with publicity and campaging and getting the message out there for evreyone to hear. I also like him because, unlike his opponent, Mike Huckabee, he doesnt go out and try to use his religion to win his campaign. Honestly, i think that it shouldnt matter what religion you believe in, because if you were meant to run the country, then this being a country seperated by church and state it shouldn’t matter at all what you believe but more so on how you lead.
My Democratic choice for President has to be Hillary Clinton. Do I think she is the best person to run? No, but she is a little better than Barack Obama. I like the idea of universal health insurance (keeping up with the Canadians). I think that is just what we need. There are way to many news stories of elderly people that are on a fixed income and cannot afford to have different medicinal treatments. I think another aspect of Clinton is the fact of how successful Bill Clinton was as the president. I think with her motive and his experience, they could really turn this country around. I read on Clinton’s website that she has a three step plan to end the war in Iraq. It sounds like it’s easier said then done, but I believe it would actually work. Clinton also has plans to give benefits to our veterans like they were promised and she aslo has plans to support our schools, which will also benefit us. One of the most important things that Clinton plans to do impacts the environment. Not only does she have plans to reduce global warming tremendously, but her plan will create as many as 5 million new jobs. She would also spur the green building industry by funding the retrofitting and modernization of 20 million low-income homes and take concrete steps to reduce electricity consumption, including enacting strict appliance efficiency standards and phasing out incandescent light bulbs, which save hundreds of dollars for citizens on their electricity bills. These are just some of Hillary Clinton’s views, and just some of the reasons why I would pick her for Democratic candidate.
Mrs. Eakin it is now 11:53 on Friday night. I’m going to submit this part so I don’t lose major credit for having them both late by a couple minutes
Now for my Republican vote. I will choose John McCain. I am a big fan of Law and Order, but I have a question: If Fred Thompson stopped campaigning, how would we know?
John McCain was a Prisoner of War, so I think that when it comes to the war in Iraq, he will pull the troops out quickly, and be very cautious in how he deals with things there. Since he is a veteran himself, it is only natural that he also has a plan to give veterans the benefits that they deserve. McCain’s plan on increasing border patrol is also very good and has a high potential in working. I know this is rushed but his views on these topics are very realisitc. I think his best plan is the tax cuts for middle and working class families, which is a little unorthodox for a Republican. Finally John McCain also plans to lower health care, but not make it free for everybody.
Those are my choices and reasons.
it’s 12:02.
Oh yeah….Jalessa is not my girl either.
hey guys ok this is a few minutes late for numerous reasons but okay here it goes..
If I was old enough to acutally vote i would vote democrat because that is what my parents have raised me to be and i would vote for my girl Hilary! woo hoo! I believe John McCain will get the republican position in this race because he has a lot of experience, and as for the democrat position i believe Obama will get it, but i wish Clinton would. Obama is lame in my point of view, all he says is I want change blah blah. well what kind of change do you want? and i believe he is also inexperienced. I want Hilary to get it because she knows what is good for this country and has watched her husband serve 2 good terms. I think Hilary truely wants the position beacuse she wants the best for we the people but Obama is just in for it to be the first negro president. Hilary will follow in Bills footsteps and make this country the best it will ever be. Obama will make it worse than it already is. Hilary sees what we need to improve and she will make sure it gets done.
where you posting fromm alex? haha. love yaaa girlll.

The Democratic candidate should be Hillary Clinton. She agrees with and believes in most of the issues I do. For one she is pro-choice, believing that women have the right to choose abortion. But Clinton also believes that it should not be used as birth control. She also wants to talk to teenagers to reduce the number of teen pregnancies, therefore limiting the number of abortions. Barack Obama says nothing of the fact to talk to teens to limit the number. Another point is gay rights. Clinton believes that your orientation should not matter in order to be in the military. These slogans are part of her campaign: ¨Gay soldiers need to shoot straight, not be straight¨ and ¨Military service based on conduct, not sexual orientation¨. Barack mentions nothing about allowing gays in the military in his campaign. Lastly, only Hillary, out of all of the candidates for both parties, says anything about lowering the cost of college and making preschool through college available to all. Not to mention she has the experience of her husband being in office and she is a woman. Her being a woman is just an added bonus at the end.
The Republican candidate is a hard choice for me because I don’t believe in a lot of their issues. If I must choose, it would be John McCain. McCain is Green and wants to save our Earth. This is something that everyone should want. When it comes to abortion McCain is pro-life, which I do not agree with, but he does support federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. Although he is pro-life he would rather have legal abortions than dangerous illegal abortions. That is why John McCain is my choice for the Republican candidate.
myspace, but with teachers…hmmmm… now that’s a interesting way of looking at our blog
Today and tomorrow are left for anyone who didn’t blog on time to still receive credit.

Keep adding to this blog as you see fit during this long weekend (when you are not bowling etc.) and we’ll tie it all up next week in class. Berni - hope you feel better!
Thanksss Mrs. Eakin. I’m feeling a lot better today!
To start off with i must say that the Iraq war was the BIGGEST issue for me! Many people do not agree with the war or our current president. My beliefs are very different in that i fully support the war in Iraq and our president!!! Our president did what he had to do to make this country more secure and looking at some of the democratic canidates for this election they agreed with Bush at the time.If we really take time to look at this the war was a reaction to 9/11 and no matter who was in office I believe they would have done the same thing. I believe the disagreements start when you look at the length of the war. (ok i just needed to get those thoughts down so you knew where i was comming from when i was arguing the issues below.)
Republicans:I am mainly focused on McCain and Hukabee because of their stands on the war. Paul thinks the war is bogus and I disagree right there! McCain is a supporter of the war. He supported Bush’s veto of the war spending bill which would have brought troops home by March 2008. He was also an early supporter of sending additional troops to Iraq. Huckabee supports the war but wants to bring troops home soon. Looking at where each stands my vote lies with McCain! The reason for this is because I don’t think troops should be brought home by March. Instead i think they should be brought home when their government is stable because we just can’t pull out now because we are in too deep and if we pulled out now the country would revert to what is was before! As far as the war goes i agree a 100% with McCain so that is where my vote goes. I also looked at health care but they both want it to be more affordable.
Democrats: As far as i’m concerned the only two democrats worth looking at are Clinton and Obama. Three years ago Clinton voted to authorize the war but now she says that vote was a mistake. She opposes the troop increase and wants an end of war date. She is also looking at the first 60 days of her administration to bring troops home.(plus as sam said it is a 2 for 1 deal with her and i don’t think as a country we need that right now!) Obama now wants the war to end but gradually and not the moment he steps into office. He has thought out a 16 month plan to withdrawl troops. My vote has to go to Obama for the democrats! First off I believe this country has 1 president for a reason and Clinton as president would be not only Hilary but Bill Clinton too. It was very easy for me to choose who i would pick for this party because i don’t think Hilary Clinton knows exactly what she wants and needs to get her thoughts straight,(does she back the troops, support the end of the war, and does she really think that her vote was a mistake?)On a different note i disagree with them both that the war should end now but because i have to choose i choose Obama because he wants a more gradual pull out of troops. I also believe that he knows more of what he wants and is very confident in his campaign!
After looking at the issues I have chose McCain for the republican canidate and Obama for the democratic canidate because of the above reasons. Coincidently i believe both of the canidates i chose will win their party because of their views on the war because the war is such a predominant issue today! If i had to predict who would win president out of McCain and Obama i would choose McCain. The reason for this thought is because I don’t know how ready the country is for an African American president?!(not that I am against it but i’m not sure how others will take it!?!)
Oh and yes I’m late but comcast STINKS and i did’t have internet last night! We always end up loosing internet when i need it the most! haha isn’t that how it always works? So, i figured turning it in a couple hours late is better then just forgetting about it!
after reading some of my perr’s blogs i feel like i have to comment! Just like many of my peers i did not touch th
